During the early days of the 19th century some hunters started breeding both Akita and Tosa together. This leads to a dog that are larger and more aggressive that its parent. Rabies outbreak diminished this breed and also during the World War 2, Akita's furs are used for uniform for Japanese soldiers.

Akita Inu is usually measure around 26 to 28 inches at the shoulder. They weigh from 70 to 120 pounds and have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years.

Lastly, one of the most interesting things about Akita is their temperament. The dog is loyal to its pack and because of this you need to consider an Akita as part of your family. Note that the Akitas are always aggressive especially when they are around others dogs. So you need to carefully counter these natural instincts by training the dog right from the early age.
