Chihuahua Training - Tame Your Little Beast

Chihuahua training can be one of the most rewarding things you do with your new (or old) pet. Not only will you wind up with a better pet, you will establish a strong bond with your dog as you go through the training. It is important that you start training your dog as soon as possible because every day you wait is one more day you have to put up with aggression, biting, barking, chewing, jumping, and bathroom "accidents".

Chihuahua training can present some unique challenges that you don't get with other dogs. This doesn't mean that they are bad dogs or you shouldn't own one, you just need to understand their nature in order to better train one. These little dogs are fragile. They really are not suited to be around children as kids tend to be a little bit rough on pets and this could seriously hurt or kill a Chihuahua. Even simple things like jumping out of your arms or off the couch can seriously injure this little dog.

Chihuahuas are also one of the hardest dogs to house train. While some dogs will easily take to going outside to go to the bathroom, these little dogs seem to have a hard time grasping the concept that they shouldn't poop on the floor.

Another potentially troublesome trait for Chihuahua training is stubbornness. These dogs are very smart and have a mind of their own. They also can be manipulative so you have to take a strong hand and be consistent with training. If you give them an inch, they will take a mile. They are also prone to non stop barking and erratic behavior. While their little bark is cute at first, it can really start to wear on your nerves.

Now that you are aware of a bunch of potential problems, it is time to talk about the solution. You really need to have structured training. The best thing to do is to get a program like the Secrets to Dog Training and do your Chihuahua training at home. This allows you to work on your own schedule and saves a bunch of money over formal dog training classes. If this fails, move on to formal dog training classes or even doggie boot camp.

All it takes is some love and dedication and you can have a great little pet. Good luck with your Chihuahua training.
